Some of my favorite findings from exploring Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Astonishing and unexpected discoveries can arise from interactions of Art, Nature, and Technology. Inventors throughout history have discovered the world’s breakthroughs using their imagination and vision about the interactions of art, nature, and technology. Imagination and Art combined with Science & Technology can turn science fiction into science fact.

During a recent trip to Massachusetts, I had a couple of hours to explore Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and was fascinated with my findings.

The Koch Institute Public Galleries displays striking images of cutting edge science and technological innovations in cancer research. They closely show the connection of art, nature, and technology and demonstrate the significant role that nature plays for life changing discoveries and innovations.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the gallery!

My Visit to The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum in Florence

My Visit to The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum in Florence

Extraordinary Inventions Ranging from the Parachute, Distribution Chain, Bicycle, Oil Press, Paddle Boat…. An Afternoon at The Leonardo Da Vinci Museum in Florence

One of my favorite discoveries during my recent trip to Italy was a hidden museum in Florence, Museo Leonardo Da Vinci. It’s one thing to read about the astonishing inventions and discoveries of the magnificent Leonardo Da Vinci, but a complete different and eye opening experience to walk through the museum full of Leonardo Da Vinci’s inventions, drawings, paintings, operating and life-size machines.

It was fascinating to see such diverse range of inventions, most of which were inspired by nature. Inventions ranging from the Dragonfly, Distribution Chain (Motion Transmission), Anemometer and Anemoscope, Ball Bearing for Vertical Axes, Parachute, Vertical Ornithopter, Oil Press, Bicycle, Archimedean Screw, Machine Gun, Paddle Boat, Diving Suit for Divers, Mud Dredge Machine, Automation Robot, to Motion Transformation and so much more!

In addition to the extraordinary inventions, the reproductions of his most important paintings, including the Last Supper, the Mona Lisa and the Annunciation was displayed at the Museum.

It was incredible to see the work of such a genius, forward thinking, scientist, artist, innovator. It made me wonder why we don’t have more people like Leonardo Da Vinci in the world, and what would the world be like if more of us were like Leonardo Da Vinci. Perhaps we could come up with a vacuum that eats CO2 or a vacuum that sucks the oil out of the ocean from oil spills, or a transparent smart layer of material that coats and protects wildlife or humans from harm, possibilities are endless…..

Here are some of my favorites!

Image: “Paddle Boat”, Leonardo studied a rotating blades boat that works with a pedal propulsion device. It worked like a modern paddle boat.

Art, Technology, Robots, Science: Family Day at the UC Irvine Beall Center for Art + Technology

Join us for Family Day at the UC Irvine Beall Center for Art + Technology this Saturday April18.The event offers a “kid-friendly” introduction to new media art relating to the Beall Center’s current exhibit, as well as presentations, hands-on activities, and more.

I am looking forward to present demonstrations and displays on the interactions between art, nature, and technology and the relationship between the ant colony, art, and robotics!
